THE FEVER KILL: Imperfect copies half off Tom Piccirilli's The Fever Kill, the ultimate in gritty, pugnacious literary fugues, is known for driving casual bookstore browsers and employees into a state of implacable rage, resulting in many copies being utterly destroyed but leaving many more just somewhat damaged. For fine reading at a frugal price, consider picking up a minimally damaged copy of The Fever Kill for only $8.49 (including domestic shipping).

FRAYED and SHALLOW END now available at Amazon.com
In addition to The Fever Kill and the Stoker-finalist anthology Corpse Blossoms, you can now find two other Creeping Hemlock classics at your favorite online mega-bookstore. Frayed by Tom Piccirilli (FearZone.com's Best Novella of 2007) and The Shallow End of the Pool by Adam-Troy Castro (current Stoker finalist) are both in stock at Amazon.com. Current prices on those two titles match ours, but as sales and quantity go up we imagine they'll reduce. If you already own any of these, help us out by hopping over and contributing your thoughts as a customer review. New review of THE FEVER KILL
From W.D. Gagliani's review in Cemetery Dance #60: "Having just read Cormac McCarthy's No Country for Old Men, I can honestly say that The Fever Kill puts me in the mind of that kind of book, and Piccirilli's writing is as fine, and maybe finer, than McCarthy's. The Fever Kill is just as deeply layered with moral ambiguities, just as peopled with characters trapped in orbits out of which they can't or won't break free. Riding along with Crease in his Mustang, revisiting old haunts, old grudges, old flames--none of which is the same, yet all of which is the same--evokes that same sense of desperation and inevitability all great noir writing aspires to. Piccirilli's horror credentials remain as an underlying current threaded between the traditional noir themes handled masterfully by a writer at the top of his game. Sardonic and sparse, there is simply no fat on these bones.... Perhaps the Coen Brothers should come calling." Only a small handful of signed copies remain here at creepinghemlock.com. We're also offering imperfect copies for just $8.49. The Fever Kill by Tom Piccirilli Check out The Fever Kill at Amazon.com

Update Children of the New Disorder is at the printer. We haven't gotten an official delivery date from them, but it's most likely going to be sometime early next month. We've put everything we've got into this book, and it is going to be beautiful-- by far our finest release to date.

Like zombie stories? Then you'll like our new chapbooks, Thin Them Out and Flesh is Fleeting... Art is Forever (or Some Bullshit Will Continue Even After the Dead Wipe Us Out). Thin Them Out is a collaboration between Dr. Kim Paffenroth and, um, two other folks. Flesh is Fleeting is written by the always awesome Gary A. Braunbeck. At $5 and $6 a pop (with free domestic shipping), they're the perfect stocking-stuffers for the zombie lovers in your life! Our attempt to raise $500 for the unnamed author was a failure, but our efforts elsewhere bore fruit and a certain King-sized charity for freelance artists came through today in a very big way. Special thanks to the always grumpy Harlan Ellison for his assistance, and kudos to Michael Shea, who has donated a copy of his collection, The Autopsy and Other Tales, which we'll be auctioning off soon. We're pleased to announce that Adam-Troy Castro's fantastic novella, The Shallow End of the Pool, has been nominated for a Black Quill Award. The entire ballot can be found here, and you can register to vote here -- it's quick and painless!

Update, plus plea for help
Children of the New Disorder will go to press sometime next week. We're finalizing the dustjacket and the printed end-papers, and then it's time to fire up the press!
Stay tuned.
Moving on...
Out of respect for his privacy, I'm not going to get into too many personal details. A writer friend of ours--he's a freelancer whose work has appeared in THE NEW YORKER, PLAYBOY, VANITY FAIR, THE MAGAZINE OF FANTASY AND SCIENCE FICTION and several other prestigious venues, including several horror magazines in the 80s--is in bad shape and in dire need of a $3000 surgery. It's life or death, he's broke, and his insurance isn't covering the operation. We're doing what we can financially, which isn't much, so I thought I'd post a plea here, among other places. A few months back, you may recall that we printed 75 freebie sneak preview copies of JACK'S MAGIC BEANS, the Brian Keene book that was, unfortunately, canceled. So far, we've given out 50 or so copies for free with CORPSE BLOSSOMS orders/auction. We have about 25 copies left from the 75 run (as well as about 25 PC copies), and I'd like to make five available right now at $100 a pop. (I will, of course, accept higher offers.) It's a rare book, and I've already seen copies go for close to that at eBay and HorrorMall. I want to get the money to him ASAP, so I'm skipping the lengthy auction process. Please note: I am not keeping ANY of the money. He's getting it all. Between this and the efforts of other friends in the industry, he should be able to raise the 3 grand. I realize that this may sound suspicious to some--I can only offer my word that it is not. If interested in helping, drop me an email at admin@creepinghemlock.com. I'll give you more info, and, if you like, have him contact you directly, letting you know this is on the up and up, and that he simply doesn't want every detail of his situation made public. If you know any book collectors who might be interested, please pass this info on to them.
Thanks.

The CHILDREN sig sheets are currently with Tim Lebbon. The project is coming along beautifully.

That's all for now. I'm gonna go back to keeping an eye on Hanna, Ike, and Josephine...

Shallow Proof The page and cover proofs for The Shallow End of the Pool arrived today, and they look nice. We immediately faxed our approval to the printer. The books are shipping from the printer sometime over the next 3-5 weeks. (When I receive a solid ship date, I'll post it here.) Many thanks to everyone who pre-ordered this book -- we can't wait to hear what you think of it.

Update Yesterday's news comes at an unfortunate time, as we are successfully playing a serious game of catch-up. The much-delayed The Shallow End of the Pool just went to press, and the Unto Dust version of Jack's Magic Beans was a few days away from the printer.
To those of you wondering if the unexpected cancellation of Jack's Magic Beans is the tolling of the bell for Creeping Hemlock Press: no, it's not. Things are different now, and it's going to take us a little while to plot a new course.
The Unto Dust series is no longer happening, but we've fast-tracked Children of the New Disorder by Tim Lebbon and Lindy Moore. Now a stand-alone novella, the book is mostly typeset, and we'll be shipping the tip-ins to the UK next week. Keep an eye on this page for updates/finalized details.
Those of you who've reserved the Lobster Edition of Tom Piccirilli's Frayed should have received an update email. If you haven't, let us know.

Unfortunate News All editions of Jack's Magic Beans have been canceled. For reasons too numerous to go into, Brian Keene has chosen to pull the work for eventual release by another publisher (possibly as a part of an upcoming collection of his short fiction). Our apologies to everyone who was eagerly awaiting this project.
The Shallow End of the Pool by Adam-Troy Castro is at the printer. Pre-order it here. It'll kick your ass.
The Fever Kill by Tom Piccirilli: Our fastest-selling and most well-received release so far. It's received coverage in Mystery Scene Magazine and Fangoria, and continues to sell like spring water in a desert. We're down to 20 signed copies.

Falling off the face of the earth...
But only for a little while.
We're moving next week (a 500 mile U-Haul haul back to sunny/sweltering Louisiana), so you'll see little of us online for the next two or so weeks.
The first eight Lobster Editions have been spoken for -- only seven remaining!
Remember: you get a free limited edition FRAYED when you buy the Lobster Edition. If you've already purchased the limited edition from us or from an online dealer and you don't want the extra copy of the s/l, we'll happily subtract your cost (up to $35, of course) from your total.
That's all for now. I may be able to get some pretty cool auctions posted before we leave (#2 from the s/l run of FRAYED, and a one-of-a-kind PC copy of the Lobster Edition!) -- keep an eye on this blog.
Cheers, r

They're Here. (Actually.) All 13 boxes. We have lots to ship over the next few days, but please don't feel bad about making us take even more boxes to the post office -- order your copy of Frayed today! Get one copy, get two copies -- get it by itself, get it with the Stoker nominated anthology, Corpse Blossoms for a mere $10 more. Get it!

Theyyyyy'rrre Heeeerrrre!
Almost. Tracking tells me they went out for delivery at 4:30 this morning, so they'll be getting here soon. Tracking also tells me there are only 2 boxes in the shipment -- a 13 pound one and a 5 pound one. I have a feeling that's a goof up in the tracking system. I'm not expecting two boxes... more like ten. If in fact two boxes are all that come, well... see title of previous entry.
More to come...

Hulk Smash.
Being a publisher can be a frustrating endevor.
The pix I posted not too long ago were of the two approval/sample copies the printer sent along after completing the entire run. We expected to have the rest of the books by now. We don't.
They're not scheduled to be released until the 30th -- three days. From there it's 3 to 4 business days. We should get them a week from today.
To everyone who has pre-ordered Frayed (and it's a lot of you -- we're on course to sell out within the first three months!): your patience is appreciated. You'll have your books real soon.

Pic's Pix
Here it is, a tanglible thing:

Here's the signed/numbered edition, sans dustjacket:

Note: it looks like leather in this pic -- it's not. It's embossed paper. Smells nice. Not as nice as leather smells, but at least no cows were harmed in the production of this book. Not that I know of, anyhow.
Spine shot:

The book to the left is the aptly named "Lobster Edition." When you read the book, this little guy will make sense:

Both editions, side by side:

Details:
Signed/numbered edition limited to 450 copies. $35. For $45, you can get it with Corpse Blossoms.
Lobster Edition: Limited to 15 signed and numbered copies. $150. (Limit one per customer)
Each copy of this ultra rare edition will come in a handmade slipcase created by Rich DeMars and featuring an inlaid original oil painting by interior illustrator/publisher R.J. Sevin.
It's going to take us a few months to complete this project. As a result, we'll be sending out copies of the Lobster Edition as they are finished. Everyone who orders a copy of the Lobster Edition of Frayed will receive a free copy of the signed/numbered edition.
If you'd like a copy, drop us a line and we'll put you down for one.
#1 is spoken for. The next person to write in will get #2, and so on.
And that's all for now.
